Hawkins served as bond counsel and disclosure counsel to the Northern Wasco County People’s Utility District (the “PUD”), a public electric utility, to finance improvements to the PUD’s electric system, including power production, transmission, distribution, and general plant.
The PUD operates two renewable energy hydroelectric power plants along the Columbia River -- the Dalles Northshore Fishway Hydroelectric Project and the McNary Fishway Hydroelectric Project. The PUD purchases the majority of its power from the federal Bonneville Power Administration, which serves several dozen public utilities in the Northwest with low-cost electricity.
About one-half of the PUD’s power comes from hydroelectricity — and nearly all of the electricity consumed by PUD residential and commercial customers is either renewable or generated from sources that do not use fossil fuels.
